Position Summary
Rocketship opened its first campus, Rise Academy, in August of 2016 and rose to Tier I status in its first year as ranked by the Public Charter School Board. As an emerging network of public charter schools in the DC Region, Rocketship will be opening potentially eight schools. The Family Recruitment team is tasked with building our community of Rocketeers by actively seeking out parents and caregivers of elementary-aged students who are interested in enrolling their child at one of our campuses.
The Family Recruitment/Engagement Specialist will be an instrumental member of our growing Family Recruitment Team. Reporting to the Manager, Growth & Community Engagement, the Family Recruitment/Engagement Specialist will work closely with Family Recruiters and other members of the Growth & Community Engagement Team to build awareness around school choice in Wards 5, 7 and 8 and increase the number of applications submitted to Rocketship elementary schools.
Responsibilities
Canvas in high-impact areas alongside members of the Family Recruitment team
- Knock on doors or attend community events as an extension of Rocketship
- Meet families and provide them with clear information about Rocketship and its application process
- Work alongside fellow staff members to hit weekly and monthly targets for families met
Serve as a liaison between Rocketship Education and the greater DC community:
- Support families in their decision to apply to a high-impact charter school through ongoing communication and follow-up calls, texts, or emails
- Coordinate family engagement at our schools and in the community through tours, information sessions, and home visits
- Plan events for new families to welcome them to Rocketship and its schools
Plan and coordinate ongoing community engagement for Rocketship’s Family Recruitment team
- Research and register for local community events through ongoing communication and follow-up calls, texts, or emails
- Build a calendar of weekly and monthly recruitment locations
- Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations and their directors to ensure ongoing communication and partnership
Qualifications

- A passion for people; you have a genuine curiosity about others and are comfortable meeting new people
- Detail oriented; you love when everything is in its place and can stay organized
- Clear communication skills; you can easily speak about different topics and engage with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
- Ability to adapt quickly and represent an organization or brand across multiple markets
- Family Recruiters must be comfortable remaining on their feet for 2-4 hours at a time as needed by a shift
- Ability to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends as determined by your schedule required
Experience
- Prior work in a role that engaged with education, was client/customer-facing or required community engagement strongly preferred
- A high school diploma or comparable education equivalent is a minimum; Recruiters in pursuit of or holding an associates or bachelor’s degree are preferred
- Knowledge of and comfort with basic computer and cloud-based programs including Google Docs, Drive, and Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
Other
Hourly salary commensurate with experience.
