The opportunity to be trained as a school bus driver QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: --Motor vehicle regulations --Safe driving practices Ability to: --Maintain order under difficult circumstances --Understand and follow verbal and written instructions --Maintain good public relations --Keep records Licenses: --Possession of a valid California driver’s license Training: The State of California requires twenty hours of classroom training and twenty hours of behind-the-wheel training for school bus drivers. Your training hours will be approximately 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. with a thirty minute lunch break. Training hours may vary. Upon completion of training, candidate will take written and performance test with the Highway Patrol. Upon certification, candidate will be placed in the classification of School Bus Driver as follows: 1. Substitute pool - $21.15/hour 2. Substitutes then move to Extra Board Drivers as positions are available. You are then guaranteed a minimum of 20 hours a week with benefits. 3. As positions vacate, Extra Board Drivers move into regular routes which insure a minimum of 25 hours a week with benefits.

Candidate’s application package, which must include: application, supplemental questionnaire, 10-year DMV printout (H-6) 10-year work history, will be screened. Prior to the interview time, each applicant will take a written test (similar to a DMV Class C test), sit behind the wheel of the bus and evacuate through the rear emergency exit. Candidates successful in the above areas will proceed to the interview portion of the examination.
