CDCR's Office of Correctional Education (OCE) is expanding programming for vocational trades and need CTE instructors to provide hands-on skill development and training opportunities for inmate students. The CTE programs include: Auto Body and Repair, Auto Mechanics, Carpentry, Cosmetology, Electrical Works, Electronics, Machine Shop, Masonry, Office Services, Painting (Industrial), Plumbing, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Roofing, Sheet Metal Work, Small Engine Repair and Welding. Career Technical Education (CTE) Programs

CTE instructors utilize their master skill level knowledge to motivate, prepare and train offenders for employment and career success. CTE instructors provide instruction to adult learners using teaching methods that include: classroom and project-based instruction, shop demonstration, training modules, performance based training and testing. Training standards prepare offenders to meet the requirements for an industry certification and develop specialized knowledge and skill for employment upon release.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Five years of trade specific journeyman work experience, WE ARE SEEKING TO HIRE FOR AUTO BODY AND REPAIR, AUTO MECHANICS, CARPENTRY, COSMETOLOGY, ELECTRICAL WORKS, ELECTRONICS, MACHINE SHOP, MASONRY, OFFICE SERVICES, PAINTING [INDUSTRIAL], PLUMBING, REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING, ROOFING, SHEET METAL WORK, SMALL ENGINE REPAIR, AND WELDING - 48 semester units of post-secondary vocational training related to a trade may be substituted for a maximum for two years of work experience. Applicants must possess or acquire a CTE credential issues by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing prior to employment with CDCR. Applicants who do not possess the credential may take the examination but must have an application on file with the CTC for the appropriate credential. Applicants should not file for a CTE credential without a job offer. Under the general supervision of the Principal and the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Vocational Instruction (SVI) the Vocational Instructor, Electrical Work, implements the California Department of Corrections (CDCR) learning goals and objectives through the Office of Correctional Education approved curriculum and in accordance with education, credentialing, and the rules and regulations that have been established by the specific trade certifying agency(s). Based on the incarcerated students’ learning needs and applicable assessment results the instructor develops lesson plans, assigns and reviews class and shop work and provides a course of study based on the specific authorized vocational program curricula. The vocational instructor provides professional and technical instruction to a diverse population of incarcerated students, including students who are advanced, remedial or disabled. The professional and technical instruction involves demonstration of skills required in the trade and lessons on principles, practices, methods, processes and terminology. The instructor ensures the students are actively engaged in the learning process and are progressing through the course according to the curriculum and established pacing matrix. The instructor will provide remedial assistance when needed, and will document their efforts in cases where inmates are not progressing according to the pacing matrix. The instructor administers appropriate written and performance tests and evaluates achievements of inmates in technical knowledge and trade skills as applicable to the student’s specific assignment. The instructor maintains a clean and well-organized classroom/shop including all associated storage areas. The instructor maintains and preserves the safety and security of the institution and the immediate classroom/shop and surrounding areas, as well as provides for the administration, storage, control and issuance of all tools, materials, and supplies within the vocational classroom and shop in a manner that maintains safety and security.
