Welcome to the Santa Maria-Bonita School District website. We are the largest school district in Santa Barbara County with about 17,500 pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students. In the heart of the coastal agricultural area, we celebrate our families and the support they provide to the students of the District. Dear Candidate:

Thank you for your interest in applying for a certificated substitute position or a teacher-tutor position.  An employment application is attached.

It is your responsibility to ensure completion of your application file.  A complete file includes the following…

  • Application (signed and dated)
  • Current Resume
  • Three letters of reference (minimum one letter of reference)
  • Copy of California Teaching Credential (mandatory for Teacher Tutors) or Emergency Permit (which can now be downloaded from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website - www.ctc.ca.gov)

Note for Substitute Teacher applicants:   If you do not already have an Emergency Permit, Human Resources will assist in the process if you are considered for hire.

Completed application packets need to be returned to the Human Resources department.

Substitute Teacher applicants:  The Substitute Calling Service (e School Solutions) is managed through the Santa Maria-Bonita School District.  Substitutes receive jobs by way of an automated/on-line system (SmartFindExpress).  In addition, if you are hired as a substitute teacher you will need to have a fingerprint clearance on file with the Santa Barbara County Education Office.  By completing a Multi-District Live Scan process your fingerprint information will be applicable with all school districts in the Santa Barbara County.

** Child Development Permit rate applies to substitutes who only have a Child Development Permit and no Emergency Sub Permit or Teaching Credential. They may only sub in Preschool classes.  Substitutes with Emergency Sub Permits or Teaching Credentials receive the Certificated Substitute rate when subbing in a Preschool class.

2019-2020 SMBSD Certificated Substitute Incentive Program

Santa Maria-Bonita School District’s Board of Trustees have approved the following pilot for 2019-2020 school year:

 

Certificated Substitutes will receive the following service stipend for cumulative number of days served substituting for SMBSD:

$750 Service Stipend triggered after 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 and 175 days

A total of $4,500 in service stipends are available over the course of the 2019-2020 school year.
