Requirements / Qualifications

•Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Biology or Zoology. •Additional experience may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year for year basis. •Veterinary Tech and International Wildlife Rehabilitation Certification preferred. •Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of zoo experience required. •A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the supervision or management of staff required. The following additional documents must be uploaded via EDJOIN.org by the filing deadline in order to be considered in the hiring process (pertains to current employees also): •Proof of education (i.e. college transcripts, copy of college diploma) A scanner to upload required documents is available in the Human Resources office located at 1300 17th St., Bakersfield, CA 93301. •The documents will be scanned and emailed to the candidate. IMPORTANT COMMENTS: •All candidates will be notified by email throughout the hiring process. •Each candidate’s application papers will be thoroughly evaluated and ranked by a screening committee appointed by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. Candidates achieving a rating of 70% or better will qualify to continue in the eligibility screening process. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Passage of a pre-employment medical assessment, current tetanus and rabies vaccination. Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license which must be maintained for the duration of the assignment. Fingerprint clearance by both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
