Our highly qualified, certified teachers will work with parents as educational partners to design a personalized learner plan that will offer the student the flexibility to reach individual goals outside the walls of a classroom environment. An Independent Study Teacher’s primary responsibility is to teach and provide guided independent study, to our students with a personalized learning plan, making adjustments to match the students’ ability levels and pace of learning. Encourages, motivates and supports students. Will assess students’ educational needs, abilities, interests, and learning styles to implement an educational program that instills in students the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their goals, including, but not limited to, obtaining a high school diploma. The primary goal of this position is to guide students to high school graduation and help them plan and prepare for post-high school life.
Responsibilities:
• Instructs students in multiple subjects, using various teaching methods, technology and other materials.
• Inputs student progress and attendance into student database.
• Prepares outline for course of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state, school and chartering district.
• Monitors, evaluates and motivates student progress.
• Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, assesses student work product and records results.
• Establishes supportive relationship with students.
• Keeps attendance records and maintains student files and transcripts.
• Calls and meets with students and parents to discuss student progress and problems.
• Participates in various community groups or functions, faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.
• May participate in related activities, such as student organizations or committees.
• Assists pupils in selecting course of study.
• Counsels students in adjustment and academic problems.
• Reviews student’s work and provide immediate feedback to student.
• Successfully moves students to meet graduation requirements.
• Provides support to students to meet minimum enrollment requirements.
• Utilizes all motivational and dropout prevention programs available to keep students in attendance and progressing towards goals.
• Responsible for carrying out all school policies and procedures.
• Assist with State testing, ensuring 100% attendance, and meeting goal of 100% proficient or above.
• May provide the teaching, guidance, and duties listed above to virtual student through online interactions and phone conversations.
• May assist other/new teachers if requested.
• Design and teach Direct Instruction classes and/or Enrichment classes as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with students, parents, co-workers and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work as a team player with colleagues and administrators.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently, exercising reasonable judgement, in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with minimal supervision.
• Ability to teach and delegate responsibility to students.
• Proficient computer knowledge and previous experience with computers in general and Microsoft software (preferred).
• Bilingual in English/Spanish (preferred).

 Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Employee must be able to hear and speak to exchange information, see to perform assigned duties, sit or stand for extended periods of time, possess dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer and other office equipment, kneel, bend at waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files, and lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

 Computer Technology:

 To perform this job successfully, the employee should have above average knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet software, email, database, and Internet experience.
