Working Hours: One regular, full-time, overtime exempt position, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year, on the Oceanside campus. May work day and/or evening hours with occasional weekends on an as-needed basis. The person selected for this position will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation.
Basic Function and Other Details:
Under the direction of the Writing Center Faculty Director, coordinate The Writing Center's Supplemental Instruction Program; coordinate, organize and participate in a wide variety of specialized program duties; serve as primary contact with writing consultants and provide work direction and guidance to them; provide information to the college and public concerning Writing Center services; maintain responsibility for the operations of the Writing Center in the absence of the Faculty Director.
Representative Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide program coordination in the planning, organization, and implementation of activities of the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program including identifying courses to be supported by SI, marketing to new faculty, creating professional development for SI faculty, and implementing programming.
2. Develop and coordinate a system to schedule SI sessions and SI Leaders which match faculty to appropriate writing consultants; ensure fair distribution of work assignments for writing coaches, students, and temporary workers at three district sites; process faculty recommendations; identify and monitor specified faculty requests.
3. Monitor SI program budget and expenditures.
4. Coordinate the collection of data for evaluation, assessment, and SI program reports. Develop, assess, evaluate and analyze Writing Center activities that maintain and increase district-wide success and retention goals.
5. Develop training program for all facets of SI (in-class and out), provide work direction and assess student and temporary hourly workers; recruit, interview, hire and evaluate student and temporary workers; assist in training new hires and advanced writing consultants.
6. Monitor delivery of SI at all district sites. Analyze, interpret, and apply district and departmental policies and procedures related to the Writing Center. Compose and prepare a variety of correspondence relating to the Writing Center and for a variety of audiences. Organize and process SI related evaluations.
OTHER DUTIES:
7. Monitor trends in the field of SI and Writing Center development, meet with other institutions when necessary; monitor regional and national successful practices and integrate with campus programs.
8. Develop and deliver flex presentations to faculty which demonstrate an understanding of pedagogical concerns related to participation in SI; meet one-to-one with faculty to brainstorm and/or problem-solve classroom SI. Develop and present Student Success Workshops; create and maintain a writing-centered series of workshops.
9. Assist in resolving intra-staff conflict; monitor and meet program goals and expectations related to SI; ensure student confidentiality.
10. Provide feedback to student writers, including scholarship and college applications.
11. Perform related duties as assigned.
Type of Benefits:

Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:
1. Education equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree in area of specialty, such as English, Literature, Writing, English as a Second Language, Linguistics, or Communication; AND
2. One year of directly related work experience with a supplemental instruction program and/or writing center in higher education.
NOTE: For work experience, a "year" is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 12 months, or at least a total of 2,080 hours.
