Since 1851, Notre Dame High School, San Jose has provided an exceptional Catholic college preparatory education for young women in Santa Clara Valley. The quality of education has remained steadfast throughout Notre Dame’s rich 165-year history. The school's mission is guided by the teachings of Saint Julie Billiart, the foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur with a strong focus on social justice and community service.
Notre Dame High School has a college preparatory English curriculum, with a strong Honors and Advanced Placement program. The department utilizes classical and contemporary literature to develop students’ critical thinking and literary analysis skills while promoting clear communication through writing and speaking. Students are encouraged to develop their own voice as they explore culturally diverse literature rich with a focus on women’s issues and social justice. This program is part of an integrated curricular design developed among the English, Religious Studies and Social Studies departments.
Responsibilities:
Teach high school English courses
Work with colleagues to effectively implement curriculum that aligns with department outcomes and Notre Dame graduation outcomes
Be familiar with educational research and current literature in academic area
Collaborate with colleagues both within the department and across the curriculum
Attend and supervise various school functions
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English; Masters Degree preferred
- Current teaching credential
- Experience working with high school students in an educational setting
Terms of Employment:
- Fulltime maternity leave replacement
- Temporary position for first semester 16/17 school year
