Preschool Teacher

Basic Assignment

Responsible for the overall supervision and management of for children ages 2 to 5 years old.

Qualifications

  • 12 units in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development. AA or BA in Early Childhood Education is highly desirable
  • 6 Months to 1 year of experience working in a preschool or comparable setting is highly desirable
  • Must be highly dependable
  • Sincere interest in working with children ages 2 to 5 years old
  • Must have a warm and friendly personality, while having sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse population
  • Willingness to fulfill the job responsibilities in accordance to the program and branch goals
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire, unless specified otherwise on contract, and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Ability to adequately observe participants activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures.

Major Functions

  • General housekeeping of program space and food preparation
  • Plan and coordinate activities that fit children's developmental needs and interests
  • Record and monitor the daily activities of children in your care
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of the creative learning environment, establishment of interest centers, and preparation of needed material and supplies
  • Communicate with parents effectively and create a positive relationship
  • Interact with children being consistent, fair and treating them with dignity and respect according to the YMCA Code of Conduct
  • Comply with Community Care Licensing regulations at all times
  • Attend all staff meetings and training programs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and health standards of the environment at all times
  • Ensure the supervision and safety of children at all times
  • Plan and implement daily schedule and curriculum
  • Plan, supervise and implement the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA
