CREDENTIAL: A valid CA State teaching credential is required for this position. Permits not acceptable. All CTC credential rules and restrictions as they apply to substitute teaching will be followed.
Overview
The Portola Valley School District is seeking two roving substitute classroom teachers (one based at each school). Under the direction of the school site principals, the fulltime roving substitute will cover for teachers who are absent. Location and assignment will typically be determined on a daily basis by the school site administrator. The ideal applicant must be a skilled organizer and collaborator, with classroom teaching experience.

WORK SCHEDULE: 186 Days per the 2022-23 teacher work year calendar. A full work day at both Ormondale and Corte Madera Schools is 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Start date: September 1, 2023
SALARY: The rate of pay for this 186-day assignment will be per placement on the approved PVTA Certificated Roving Substitute salary schedule. First-year placement will always be Step 1 ($41,850.00) regardless of years of experience. The employee will earn a step increase in the following year only after completing at least 75% of the regular school year, and meeting a satisfactory evaluation as stated in the “Evaluation Procedure” section.

DEFINITION:

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience
- Three (3) years classroom teaching experience in an elementary and/or middle grade classroom preferred.
- Knowledge of different grade level units of study (also preferred).
- Knowledge of and experience in implementing an array of best practices related to elementary/middle school grade level instruction.
- Interest in working with elementary/middle school students.
Ability to:
- Sit, stand and/or walk for lengthy periods of time to monitor student progress;
- Hear and understand speech at normal room levels;
- Speak in audible tones so that others, including young children, may understand clearly;
- Comprehend visual and auditory input given by others;
- Bend, reach walk, knee, bend at the waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally;
- Lift up to 25 lbs. (light objects as part of classroom environment)
- See to perform assigned duties with or without vision aids;
- Use hands and fingers to operate office equipment as needed during class time as necessary to perform the duties of the position;
- Daily routine ability to exchange information via hearing and speaking;
Skills, knowledge, mental ability, and manual dexterity to carry out the posted duties and responsibilities of the job, interpret and implement school policies, rules and regulations, and make determinations relative to the effective performance of the essential responsibilities of the position;
Short-term and long-term memory ability is required in all tasks;
Ability to use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students and subject matter.
Working Conditions
- On-site, indoor and outdoor classroom environment, limited outdoor playground and computer lab environment; subject to frequent interruptions; subject to change should COVID-19 protocols change;
- Consistent and predictable attendance expected.
Licenses and other requirements:
CA DOJ and FBI fingerprint (Livescan) clearance prior to the first day of school.
A valid CA State teaching credential is required for this position. Permits not acceptable.
Environmental Factors: A large part of the required daily assignments will take place indoors in a school setting. Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature extremes, machinery vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances. All San Mateo County Health COVID-19 protocols will be followed.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.
