TITLE: SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT
SALARY 10 None or a limited number of units.
RANGE: 12 Completion of 15 semester units of a varied academic program.
15 Completion of 30 semester units of a varied academic program, 15 of which must be education courses or related subjects.
18 An AA Degree (60 semester units or more, 30 of which must be education courses or related subjects) or 60 units of education courses.
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, assists in the operation of school computers, mobile devices, and general educational technology and assists in the operation and use of K-12 educational software used at school; trouble-shoots computing devices and software at school site.
QUALIFICATIONS
a. Required:
- A high school degree or its equivalent.
- Experience using modern desktop operating systems and mobile platforms, including Microsoft Windows, MacOS, iOS, Chrome, and Android.
- Experience in K-12 using educational technology and K-12 educational software.
- Knowledge and experience with effective trouble-shooting of software and hardware on the above mentioned platforms and operating systems.
- Ability to speak and write effectively; work independently; work calmly, professionally, and accurately under pressure and with frequent interruptions; establish and maintain cooperative and respectful relationships with all staff and students.
- Ability to train, tutor and communicate effectively with new and experienced users.
- Valid California driver license.
b. Desired:
- An Associate degree with 2 years of experience in a field related to computer technology, information technology, educational technology, or general computer theory and operation.
- Experience working with students in larger and smaller group settings.
- Knowledge of developmental stages of students.
- Experience working with teachers in larger and smaller group settings and demonstrating the use of educational technology.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, or other productivity suite.
- Experience researching and finding educational software meeting specific needs, working with teachers to implement education software, and train staff on use of educational software.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Tutor students, individually or in groups, in prescribed subject matter under direction of certificated staff.
- Work with principal, certificated staff and curriculum department to integrate educational software with grade level subject matter objectives.
- Prepare computers, mobile devices, peripherals, and other educational technology devices for daily student and staff use.
- Assist teachers in monitoring students and make adjustments in the computer programs as requested.
- Perform basic trouble-shooting and repair of computer hardware, mobile devices, peripherals, education technology, and software.
- Research and recommend hardware and software for purchase in consultation with the school principal, staff and committee members.
- Train staff in use of computers, peripherals, and educational software.
- Work effectively with site principal, teachers, and supervisor.
- Prior to the start of each school year, actively participate in annual training/professional development activities, as conducted by the ITS Department.
- Perform other duties as required as reasonably related to classification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Facility to hear and understand speech at normal levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.
- Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard at normal conversational distances. Ability to speak in a calm tone-of-voice even when other staff is upset and speaking loudly.
- Facility to see, read and distinguish colors, with or without vision aids.
- Physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate hand and power driven tools and equipment commonly used in the electronics field.
- Physical agility to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to maintain balance working off the ground using ladders.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to bend and twist, kneel and stoop and reach in all directions.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to concentrate on a single task for up to two (2) hours at a time.
2. Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a variety of technology, instructions, and task methods.
3. Ability to meet deadlines in terms of work assignment schedules.
SOCIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Interact daily in person with other members of the site and school staff and possess comfortable interpersonal skills and cooperative attitudes.
- Because of the time urgent nature of duties and because work product of position is interdependent with that of other staff, consistent attendance is required.
- Convey an understanding, patient attitude toward other students, parents, staff and members of community.
- Maintain the privacy of confidential information including pupil data, staff data, or any other data accessible through the IT systems.
