INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST I

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Information Technology Specialist I provides basic technology support to staff. This position responds to service requests throughout the District to address the immediate needs of staff, students, and the public (e.g. printers, audio-visual setup, plug-ins, wireless, etc.). The Information Technology Specialist I also assists ETIS staff with maintaining computer operating systems and application software updates.

FUNCTIONS

  • Assists staff and students with technology issues related to software, web 2.0 support, printing, e-printing, driver and plug-in compatabilities, etc.
  • Provides end user support for current and emerging computer technologies such as, ChromeBooks, iOS tablets, Android tables, Windows, Apple and Linux computers.
  • Provides end user support for peripheral equipment, for example scanners, printers, e-printers, cameras, micropones and integrated classroom technologies.
  • Performs software updates, plug-ins and patches as needed.
  • Assists sites with mobile carts, staging mobile technoliges, configuration changes to labs, etc.
  • Provides support to District approved devices, including iOS, Android and Chrome OS, District mobile devices and Bring Your Own Device (BOYD).
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training, experience and demonstrated expertise in technology and information systems, which would validate the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below. An example of an acceptable combination is: 

  • Two (2) years of experience in information technology or related support services that include; end user software support, helpdesk support or mobile device support.
  • Possession of A+ and/or N+ certification is desired.

 

SKILLS to provide end user support for educational technology to include; web 2.0 applications such as Google Apps for Education and Office 365, educational and classroom embed technologies using IR, Wifi and Bluetooth; assist others with mobile devices, smart boards, mobile device configuration of themes, apps and plug-in’s; using a variety of computer equipment, including tablets, laptops, desktops, assessment devices, assistive learning equipment, printers, e-printers and smartphones.

 

KNOWLEDGE of various operating systems; computer terminology, common desktop applications; basic computer repair techniques; presentation, peripheral and network equipment (e.g. computers, printers, PDAs, switches, UPS, printers, laptops, LCD projectors, etc.).

 

ABILITY to interpret and apply technical oral directions and written documents; safely operate a motor vehicle; maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field; establish and maintain accurate records, inventories, and statistical reports; observe safety precautions and procedures; maintain a work pace appropriate to a given workload; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, fellow employees, teachers, and administrators; understand, be sensitive to and respect the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disabilities and sexual orientation of students, teachers, administrators and staff; maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance. 

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity.  Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing.  This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
