Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

Urban Montessori Charter School is seeking 12 experienced, dynamic, and passionate educators who will lead outdoor education/physical education classes for 1 hour during the school day and then lead after school programs during the aftercare program at Urban Montessori for 2 hours after the school day.  Outdoor education/PE instruction takes places between 2:30-3:15pm daily.  Each OE/PE teacher will guide a group of 18-36 students during that time period.  The after school program runs from 3:30-6:00pm daily.  From 3:30-5:30pm, we are seeking teachers who can supervise children during supervised play as well as lead classes.

  • Team sports (basketball, baseball, soccer, football, etc)
  • Martial arts
  • Outdoor education

  • Health

Qualifications

The Teacher will have the following qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

  • Content expertise in Physical or Outdoor Education for elementary-aged children
  • At least two years of experience teaching Physical or Outdoor Education to k-4 students

Other Qualifications

  • Able to build immediate and loving rapport with children of all ages and from diverse backgrounds; some understanding of child growth and development
  • Passion for teaching and working with students from urban communities, with specific knowledge and understanding of the needs of students from different experiences, languages and backgrounds
  • Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills; high sense of commitment; ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively
  • Able to work in a creative and demanding learning environment, including the ability to problem-solve and manage ambiguity and adversity
  • Sense of humor, high ethical professional standards, equity perspective
  • Able to pass state and federal background checks
  • Clear TB and criminal background check upon hire
