CLASS TITLE: THEATER FACILITIES COORDINATOR
BASIC FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of a site administrator this person will instruct, train and supervise students and other theater employees relating to theatre equipment and facilities. This person will oversee the use of the theatres by all users and will coordinate/organize technical aspects for any productions or other uses of the theater to ensure the safety of equipment, students, personnel and the general public, according to district regulations.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Instruct, train and supervise student assistants and other employees, community groups and other users in technical theater practices. The majority of employee time will be spent on instructing and training others on the use and equipment of the theatre.
Frequent exercise of discretion and judgment in comparing and evaluating options and making decisions for the most effective use of the theater facilities, equipment, individuals, and other resources
Use specialized theater knowledge to provide technical direction and control over all theater systems including sound, lighting, projection, rigging, counterweight system, and front of house procedures involved with productions with emphasis on safety
Supervise students, employees, community groups, and other users during rehearsals and performances
Act as community spokesperson for theater productions
Carry out daily inspections for security and safety
Develop, recommend to site administrator, and implement a system to schedule use of the theater
Assist in development of theater goals and procedures
Oversee and assure that staff assignments and responsibilities have been performed and completed
Handle concerns and complaints from theater users
Supervise and/or perform routine maintenance and repairs to the building and the equipment, sound, lighting, counterweight system
Advise site administrator and District Superintendent on equipment needs and facility improvement
Identify and report other needs for maintenance to the site manager
Oversee the handling and/or handle production related paperwork and communication with the various users of the facilities to ensure optimal use of facility and equipment
Represent district at community advisory groups and organizations of other theater related groups
Develop rules and policies for use of facility and equipment
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Specialized knowledge of and experience with theater productions, facilities, equipment and practices
Specialized knowledge of and experience with stagecraft and stage operations, including lighting, sound, rigging and other stage equipment, and theater safety
Supervision and management skills
Communication and problem-solving skills
Relevant Board policies, procedures, and administrative regulations
Proper English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation
PC computers, including word-processing, spreadsheet, and data base software, and desktop publishing
Ability to:
Maintain cooperative working relationships with all users of the facilities
Be productive, flexible, and organized despite frequent interruptions
Plan, organize, and prioritize workload so as to meet established timelines
Communicate effectively and tactfully in both oral and written forms with administrators, staff, students, parents and the community at large
Work effectively with little or no supervision
Supervise, instruct and train personnel and students in a variety of technical and procedural matters
Ability to handle routine problem-solving maintenance and repairs to theater and the equipment, sound, lighting, counterweight system; best technical service within the limits of the auditorium facilities
Operate PC’s in a Windows environment using various word processing, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, and data base software
Communicate with positive, diplomatic direction, with students, faculty, district and community members
Meet physical/and or mental requirements associated with tasks outlined in this position description
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
College training or experience in theater arts preferred with emphasis in technical theatre. Experience should cover a wide range of duties with increasing responsibilities.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance
Evidence of TB clearance
Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and acceptable driving record and qualification for insurability by the District’s insurance carrier
WORKING CONDITIONS:
School office and theater environment; subject to frequent interruptions.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
As part of instructing and training others on use of theater facilities and equipment, this job involves demonstrating techniques and use of equipment which includes standing for long periods, climbing, pulling, lifting, bending and heavy physical labor.

Must be flexible in work schedule and may be required to work outside of regular work hours.
