Requirements / Qualifications

Successfully pass the State-approved Interpreter Evaluation Examination with a score of 4.0 or better. Two (2) years of paid or voluntary experience working with deaf and hard of hearing individuals who use manual communication. The Educational Sign Language Interpreter I involves a higher skill level to permit spontaneous interpretation of technical, complex, and advanced subject matter. In addition, this job class requires an advanced level of voice interpreting skills and application-level knowledge of varied sign systems. Successful completion of appropriate college or equivalent coursework and/or experience, or native signer with documented experience and references. Associate degree in interpreting for the deaf and hard of hearing preferred. High school diploma
