ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provide visionary leadership for a comprehensive adult education program that serves the needs of the Berkeley community and greater East Bay; Build, lead, and advocate for an inclusive vision for student learning; Provide ongoing analysis of community needs, interests, labor market studies, and economic data and continually develop new and updated courses and career pathways based on this data; Provide for continuing evaluation and assessment of all programs, employees, and organizational structure; Lead the continuous growth of faculty and staff through comprehensive professional development and professional learning communities; Recruit, hire, supervise, coach and evaluate the co-administrators, teachers, counselor, and classified staff; Actively represent BAS in the regional adult education consortium; Collect and compile data for the purpose of analyzing equitable student learning and student support needs, federal and state reporting requirements, and for monitoring and assessing program components and design; Develop and manage an extensive and complex adult education budget that includes state apportionment, federal funds, and fee income, and authorize all expenditures; Facilitate collaborative planning, shared decision making, and implementation of accreditation self-studies, action plans and ongoing school improvement; Develop and maintain district and community partnerships and collaborations; Develop and implement marketing strategies schoolwide, including a quarterly school catalog; Manage facility maintenance, improvements and room use; Keep informed on legislation, funding and Education Code as it relates to adult education, and ensure compliance with state and federal funding requirements; Maintain knowledge of and comply with board policies and collective bargaining unit contracts; Develop, implement and coordinate curriculum for all program areas in adult education; Other duties as assigned

Berkeley Adult School (BAS), a school that is part of the Berkeley Unified School District, is a comprehensive adult school that offers high-quality educational and community interest programs to meet the diverse learning needs of adults throughout the San Francisco East Bay region. The school is distinctive for the variety of courses offered, the quality of instruction, its customer-focused service, its well-equipped campus, and its robust partnerships with community organizations and industry. BAS operates day, evening and Saturday programs in Career-Technical Education, English as a Second Language, Adult Secondary and Basic Education, programs for adults with disabilities and for older adults, and Community Interest fee-based programming. A dedicated staff of 70 serve approximately 4,000 students per year with specialized curriculum to meet their educational, career and personal goals. APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS: Completed online applications must be received on EdJoin. Application must include: -Cover letter stating qualifications, experience - Resume -Fully completed application Candidates selected to be interviewed will meet with a panel of district and BAS staff. The panel will identify candidates to be interviewed by the Superintendent and other district representatives. The Superintendent or designee reserves the right to visit the districts and communities of candidates prior to a final decision. Any contact with Board Members, in an attempt to influence the selection process, will be considered a breach of professional ethics.

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid California Administrative Services Credential At least 3 years’ experience as an adult ed, college or secondary school administrator (preferably in adult ed) Masters or doctorate degree in educational leadership preferred Experience teaching and/or leading in adult education preferred Creative, entrepreneurial, flexible and responsive to community needs Dedicated to equity and the success of all students Strong work ethic, high energy, and integrity Outstanding organizational and managerial skills Knowledge, skills or experience in: California Adult Education Program (CAEP) instructional areas, policies, laws, reporting and fiscal requirements Curriculum development, and effective instructional and assessment practices designed for adult learners Special education or programs for adults with special needs Budget development and fiscal oversight Establishing and maintaining positive and collaborative working relationships Developing and sustaining partnerships and collaborative decision making Inspiring and supportive instructional leadership, supervision and professional development
