DEFINITION
Under supervision to perform a variety of complex clerical work involving the maintenance of various financial, payroll, statistical records, and prepare documents on a computer system.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Prepares district payrolls, reports, and related documents; posts, assembles, tabulates, computes, compares, and files financial data, applying standard formula and using predetermined guides; monitors adherence to laws, policies, and good accounting practices relating to payroll accounting; applies both classified and certificated rules and regulations in determining payments and maintaining records; reviews and analyzes payroll data including computer listings and printouts and microfiche records; computes and initiates adjustment for correction of salary payment and deductions; maintains sick and vacation leaves, oversees industrial leaves, payroll and other records; operates a variety of office machines including data terminal, calculator, microfiche equipment, etc.; prepares, changes, and audits payroll data retained in computer; answers correspondence and inquiries regarding assignment data, time-reporting methods, and rules and regulations regarding payroll matters; may contact other agencies, schools, and businesses to arrange and discuss matters relating to payroll; works under considerable or extreme pressure of deadlines and work volume; exercises independent judgment with regard to financial matters; provides discrete payroll information, as authorized by supervisor, to loan companies, courts, public agencies, and other units of the district; and other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of: Basic methods, terminology and practices of payroll, bookkeeping and financial record keeping; general office practices, computerized office automation systems and office machines.
Ability to: Follow oral and written instructions; complete routine tasks willingly; perform general and statistical clerical work; make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy; work with a minimum of supervision; operate computers and office machines; remain flexible under the pressure of a heavy work load and critical deadlines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Skills: Keyboarding at a rate of 45 words per minute from clear, legible copy; ability to operate adding, calculating and other business machines including computers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Graduation from high school, preferably including supplemented courses in financial record keeping.
Experience: Three years of experience in a position requiring a basic knowledge of accounting, payroll and/or fiscal record keeping procedures and terminology.
