Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   
The Resource Specialist is a credentialed special education teacher who has had three or more years of teaching experience, including both regular and special education programs and has demonstrated the competencies for a resource specialist certificate as established by the Commission for Teacher Preparation and Licensing. The Resource Specialist has responsibility for individuals with exceptional needs who are assigned to regular programs for the majority of the school day. Specifically, the resource Specialist: 1. Provide information and assistance to individuals with exceptional needs and to their parents. 2. Provides consultation, resource information, and material regarding individuals with exceptional needs to their parents and to regular staff members. 3. Coordinates special education services with the regular school program for each pupil enrolled in the Resource Specialist Program. 4. Monitors pupil progress on a regular basis, participates in the review and revision of individualized education programs as appropriate, and refers pupils who do not demonstrate appropriate progress to the Individualized Education Program Team. 5. Emphasizes academic achievement, career and vocational development and preparation for adult life at the secondary level. 6. Assesses pupils referred to special education as a member of the assessment team.

Requirements / Qualifications

This position requires a credential which authorizes RSP services such as an Education Specialist Credential: Mild to Moderate. The candidate must have an English Language Learner Authorization/CLAD.

It is recommended you attach a letter of interest, three (3) letters of recommendation, all written within one year, and if you are a current teacher, a performance evaluation.

Employees working a 90+% assignment are required to take at least single coverage health insurance with the Azusa Unified School District or provide proof of coverage through another group plan.
