Riverbank Unified School District is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Payroll Technician to join our Business Services team. Under the direction of the Director of Business, this position is responsible for processing district payroll, administering employee and retiree benefits, and supporting various accounting functions. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in payroll or financial recordkeeping—preferably in an educational setting—and a commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and excellent service.

ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN/PAYROLL
JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction of the Director of Business, performs highly responsible work in maintaining District Payroll records, implements the Districts benefit program, implements payroll. Performs duties in accordance with Accounts Payable and Receivable for retiree benefits.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Maintain accounting controls requiring the application of complex laws, rules, and regulations.
2.Accurately prepare payroll and benefit reports and statements as required.
3.Maintain confidentiality of information and records.
4.Examine payroll documents, records, forms, and computer printouts for accuracy and completeness.
5.Prepare monthly contractual and other types of pay within payroll system.
6.Answer questions regarding employee benefits.
7.Prepare warrants, invoices, time records, purchase orders and similar fiscal documents.
8.Compare, schedule, index and file bills, vouchers, warrants, and other records.
9.Maintain salary spreadsheets for contracted employees.
10.Perform related duties as assigned
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Financial record keeping methods; function and purpose of an accounting system in a school district; specific types of budgets used in school finance; modern office methods, techniques, and equipment; basic accounting principles and techniques.
Ability to:
?Operate a typewriter, computer terminal, calculator and other common office machines
?Perform complex financial recordkeeping
?Analyze budgets, expenditures and other financial records
?Prepare reports accurately
?Perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy
?Communicate clearly and concisely
?Understand and follow both oral and written instructions
?Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
?Ability to perform light physical exertion
?Lift 25 pounds
?Carry 15 pounds
?Reach in all directions
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED. Two (2) years experience in progressively responsible business office practices in accounting, finance, or a related field, preferably in education. Additional training or education may be substituted for one (1) year of office experience. Additional training or education may be required during the course of employment.
