VISTA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CERTIFICATED JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE OF POSITION: Community Outreach and Career Training Specialist - Adult Ed A. Primary Function: Provides support for teachers and students. Involves case management, addressing student discipline/behavior issues within in the program. Guides instructional practices and student support services including being the liaison between the school and community organizations. B. Directly Responsible to: Vista Adult School Principal C. Assigned Responsibilities: Provides an effective guidance program, including student goal setting, post secondary transition, career guidance and exploration. E Works directly with students addressing barriers that interfere in success. E Builds a strong community outreach component. E Serves as liaison between student and teacher to support student success. Lead for career training programs admission, orientation and enrollment process. E Promotes program transitions within the programs. E Assists in planning/scheduling of career training and community education classes. E Works directly with clients referred from the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) for job placement with a possible caseload following DOR contract goals (Workability II). E Promotes and markets adult school within the community. Organizes the annual Career and Resource Fair and Advisory Night. E Develops and maintains partnerships with community organizations for student job opportunities, externships, job shadowing, advisory members, and presenters. E Participates in community based organizations and promotes positive relations between the school, business and community. E Manage career training internship/externship opportunities and student placement. E Works directly with Vista Adult School to meet Consortium goals. Assists with school wide events, workshops, and brochure development. Performs other related duties as assigned. D. Education and Experience: Posses or be eligible for qualifying adult ed credential through the California Teaching Commission Associates/Bachelor’s degree or 2-5 years qualifying skills, knowledge, and ability to lead the coordination of and education program E. Qualifications: Knowledge of: Curriculum and instruction related to community outreach and career training Strategies and materials for the education of adult students Technology resources Effective communication and interpersonal skills Brochure, workshop and event development for community outreach Abilities to: Communicate effectively orally and in writing Work in a diverse socio-economic and multicultural community Reach out to students to create positive professional relationships Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance Establish positive relationships among staff members at all levels Work effectively and flexibly in a variety of environments Read a variety of materials Assists students, families, or staff Establish and maintain a variety of accurate record keeping and filing systems Use a computer or other technology-based equipment F.
