Job Summary

Job Summary

The mission of the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) is to ensure that all students are equipped with the competencies they need to thrive in the 21st century. OCDE is a public education organization offering support services to 28 school districts and more than 600 schools and 20,000 educators serving over 475,000 students in Orange County. Our vision is that Orange County students will lead the nation in college and career readiness and success. We play a supportive role in the fulfillment of this vision in collaboration with educators at all levels of student development and in partnership with families, businesses, and community organizations. Connections at Mann: Oral Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Program: Located on the Horace Mann Elementary School campus in Anaheim, this regional program serves students in transitional kindergarten through 6th grade using an auditory-oral approach. Our program is designed to help students develop listening, expressive and receptive language, and oral speech skills. It is a mild-moderate placement taught to general education standards. Instruction takes place in special day classes situated on a general education campus, with opportunities for mainstream integration supported by trained staff. Signs are not used in this approach; instead, the focus is on speech and listening skills, along with natural gestures used in typical conversation. Our goal is to help students build strong language, social, and cognitive skills to successfully transition into general education settings. The program is led by teachers and therapists with specialized training in auditory-oral methods and child development and includes close collaboration with families to support the use of appropriate hearing technology.
