JOB DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, drives any assigned school bus to transport students to and from designated sites, assists in maintaining buses in clean and safe condition and do other related work as assigned.
POSITION IN THE ORGANIZATION
Reports to: Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation or Designee
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Drives any assigned school bus over a designated route in conformity with an established time schedule
Transports students and adults on special educational trips
If necessary, talks with parent, principal, or teacher concerning conduct or care of child
Maintains Unlimited School Bus license and periodically retrains and drives vehicles as required
May assist children in boarding bus or crossing street
Washes windows, sweeps, dusts, and keeps vehicle clean
Checks vehicle for maintenance, mileage, and safety
Keeps trip records and makes simple reports
May help train new drivers, answer telephones, assists in office routine, etc.
Establishes and maintains good working relationships with others
Participates in workshops and in-services as required
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to graduation from High School and one year experience safe driving with a public or private transportation agency.
Possession of a California Class B Operator's License, Unlimited School Bus Driver's Certificate and a current Medical Certificate.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic vehicle repair and maintenance
Knowledge of first aid techniques
Ability to drive safely and to establish safe driving techniques
Ability to learn routes and schedules
Ability to react effectively under stress and emergencies involving vehicle driving
Ability to follow and maintain assigned schedules and instructions
Ability to obtain/maintain valid licenses and certificates as required by the District and the law
Must be physically fit to lead and participate in a variety of vigorous activities
Ability to see and hear conditions relating to the safety of self and others
Ability to speak in an indoor and outdoor setting well enough to project voice throughout classroom, playground and multipurpose room
Strength to lift/carry equipment/supplies/children up to 50 pounds
Must have adequate body movement or mobility to stoop, bend, reach and climb
