Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   
1. Provide students with an opportunity to improve their understanding of self and develop a more positive sense of personal worth through individual and group counseling. 2. Seek assistance of classroom teachers in understanding and aiding the individual pupils who seem to have problems which cannot be alleviated by the usual teaching techniques. 3. Communicate with parents regarding student expectations, student progress, grades, test results, and testing programs. 4. Act as a liaison between school, outside agencies, and parents in promoting the welfare of the student. 5. Make recommendations concerning curriculum and the master schedule. 6. Articulate the transition from elementary to middle school. 7. Collect, review, and interpret data in order to assess student needs. 8. Participate in the evaluation of ongoing counseling and guidance practices. 9. Promote the awareness and appreciation of cultural diversities. 10. Make home calls related to special problems, i.e., attendance, student adjustment. 11. Provide occupational information and stimulating ideas to encourage pupils to seek further information regarding career choices. 12. Responsible for proficiency conferences. 13. Implement and assist with registration and student program changes that facilitate students meeting graduation requirements. 14. Maintain accurate individual student cumulative records and other related information. 15. Make phone calls and write confidential reports for various placement committees. 16. Assist with campus supervision during the regular school day and participation in extra curricular activities as appropriate. 17. Provide leadership in helping the school and community understand the importance of the guidance function in education. 18. Coordinate efforts with other Pupil Personnel staff. 19. Make and process student referrals. 20. Support the teacher in responding to early or advancing indication of student absenteeism in the most effective possible way. 21 Provide parent education in assisting students in problem solving. 22. Perform other such duties as assigned in support of the District's counseling and guidance program.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: • Eligible for credential authorizing School Counseling Services • Minimum of 3 (three) successful years of teaching experience • Ability to work in a collegial manner with staff and students Desired Requirements: • Demonstrated leadership ability affecting the improvement of guidance program • Experience as a school counselor • Bilingual – Spanish
