Job Summary

Job Summary

Room and Board, and meals are included during Summer Camp week. Camp Connect reunites siblings separated in the San Diego County foster care system through a five-day residential summer camp. The program is managed by Promises2Kids. The Temporary Residential Camp Counselor plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and engagement of youth participants during Camp Connects five-day, four-night overnight summer camp. This position includes pre-camp preparation and training, hands-on participation during all camp activities, and post-camp clean-up. This is a seasonal role from July 1 – August 5, 2025, with required full-time availability during the camp dates: July 31 - August 4, 2025. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Live, sleep, and work onsite for the full duration of the five-day camp (transportation, meals, and lodging provided) * Supervise a group of approximately 5–10 youth, ensuring their safety, engagement, and emotional well-being at all times, including overnight in shared cabin lodging * Facilitate and participate in all camp activities including swimming, zip lining, mountain biking, archery, arts & crafts, environmental education, sports, drama, and horseback riding * Promote positive behavior and character development; proactively address behavior concerns using trauma-informed approaches * Assist in volunteer training sessions and participate in pre-camp meetings * Support committee work such as camp theme planning, activity development, and implementation * Monitor and report campers’ medical needs, working closely with the onsite nursing team * Support set-up and clean-up of camp, including moving supplies, loading/unloading vehicles, and organizing materials * Adhere to emergency procedures, safety protocols, and COVID-19 precautions * Other duties as assigned

Required: * Must be 21 years of age or older * Must be fully vaccinated * Must be available for the full five-day camp (July 31-August 4, 2025) and for select training dates in July * Must pass San Diego County Child Welfare Services (CWS) background clearance * Minimum of two years’ experience working with youth of various ages * Comfortable with overnight supervision, including sleeping in cabins with youth * Physically able to walk, hike, and be active outdoors in varying conditions * Reliable transportation and valid auto insurance * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills * Ability to work independently, take initiative, and contribute to a collaborative team * Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills * Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with sensitive information * This position requires regular evening and weekend hours to meet participant needs. Preferred: * Experience in overnight camps, youth programs, or recreation settings * Experience working with youth from foster care or underserved backgrounds * Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain) * Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills * Comfortable with public speaking and leading small groups
