Teaches one or more classes in the field of Physical Education to students in grades K-8 utilizing the District’s approved curriculum within the scope of the District’s adopted philosophy and goals; assists in other school programs as assigned, and creates a standards based program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student’s ability. Minimum Qualifications & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
  • Valid California teaching credential authorizing service in grade levels and areas assigned.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
  • Must have ELL authorization.
  • Must be able to work effectively with administrators, staff, parents, and community.

        
Essential Functions:

  • Creates sequential developmental, age-appropriate lessons for students utilizing the course of study prescribed by the District approved curriculum.
  • Creates an integral part of the District’s educational program by directly linking physical education activities with academics.
  • Provides students with the knowledge to participate in physical activities correctly, safely, and to the best of their ability.
  • May work with an instructional aide by providing him/her with follow up lesson plans.
  • Keeps all equipment for the physical education program in a safe working condition.
  • May teach one or more classes of adapted physical education for students with special needs; may teach one or more classes in interscholastic athletics to junior high students.
  • Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Creates weekly standards-based lesson plans with short and long term planning.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive learning environment.
  • Instructs students in proper care and use of materials and equipment storage, and controls use of materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Instills the importance of teamwork by scheduling and participating in intramural sports.
  • Evaluates each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and understanding, and prepares progress reports.
  • Selects and requisitions instructional materials, and maintains inventory records.
  • Communicates with parents, school administrators, and school counselors on student progress; and holds parent conferences to discuss the individual pupil’s progress, as needed.
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education workshops and clinics provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the methods by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with District guidelines.
  • Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.
  • Performs basic attendance accounting as required.
  • Maintains grading system with substantiated grades for students, and ensures that grades are current in the District student information system.
  • Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.
