GROUNDS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, to perform skilled power grounds equipment operation as a regular and major assignment; to perform the more independent, responsible grounds and gardening work; and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Operates a variety of power grounds equipment such as large power mowers, power edgers and trimmers, trucks, and tractors; uses tractor attachments as the job demands; cleans, services, and makes minor repairs to the equipment; mows large fields; fills, levels, rolls, smoothes, and prepares ground for planting of lawns or paving; levels grounds for athletic fields; trims and prunes trees and shrubs from the ground; operates power sweepers; sprays for weed and insect control; performs general grounds clean-up related to other duties; operates a truck in transporting equipment and in hauling soil, fertilizer and other materials used in work; performs general grounds maintenance work; may supervise the work of assigned grounds maintenance men.
LICENSE REQUIRED
Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, tools, and larger power equipment used in grounds maintenance work; the operation and routine maintenance of power grounds equipment.
Ability to:
Perform responsible grounds maintenance work; operate and maintain a variety of power grounds equipment and tools safely and skillfully; perform heavy manual labor, lifting in excess of 100 pounds; understand and carry out oral and written directions; work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work; read and write at a level sufficient to read simple work instructions and prepare simple work and time records.
Experience:
One year of experience at a skilled level in the operation of tractors, trucks, and large power mowers, or one year of experience at, or equivalent to, the level of grounds maintenance man with El Rancho Unified School District in an area in which the individual has gained basic experience in the operation of large grounds equipment.
Education:
Persons with the experience, knowledge, and abilities as stated are considered to have the necessary education.
