Job Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Principal and Music instructor, will support student musicians and teachers in choral classes, rehearsals, and performances during the day as well as the evening, weekend and off campus performances. Accompanist must advocate and/or appreciate music of many cultures
Requirements / Qualifications
Knowledge of: • Principles, methods, and techniques of piano accompaniment. • Musical theory, harmony, rhythm, composition, and related musical functions. • Choral music rehearsal procedures. • Theory, harmony, rhythm, composition and related musical functions. • Popular, classical, jazz and stage music. Ability to: • Play a variety of musical styles with feeling and accuracy. • Aid in the selection of music for special occasions. • Adapt to the style of solo performers and the conductor. • Speak in front of students and possibly large audiences. • Communicate effectively with school staff, students and parents. • Work cooperatively with the director, staff, students and parents. • Receive and implement oral and written directions. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: • Associate’s degree, or equivalent, in a music field or equivalent experience. • Two years of experience as a collaborative pianist/accompanist. • Experience working with adolescents is preferred. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS: • Possession of a current California Driver’s license. This position may travel between schools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Perform piano or other keyboard accompaniment for music groups in class, rehearsals, performances and special events; provide pitches for warm-up exercises.
• Practice musical selections with individual students and small groups as needed; conduct sectional rehearsals; assist the teacher in preparing students for concert solos and ensembles.
• Utilize written piano accompaniment for performance of musical selections; assist the students with understanding notes, rhythms and sheet music; reinforce lessons and instruction provided by the teacher.
• Operate acoustic and electric pianos and related electronic equipment.
• Assist in setting up portable equipment for rehearsals and performances as necessary.
• Learn all choral parts and accompaniments and be ready to play them in rehearsal; record rehearsal tracks for in-class sectional rehearsals.
• Play keyboard instruments to accompany acting, dancing, singing and other choreographed routines involving the need to adapt for irregular rhythmic patterns, tempos, and music.
• Assist the teacher in preparing for rehearsals and performances.
• Assist with necessary classroom preparation for a positive classroom environment.
• Model proper rehearsal and performance conduct.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
