PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER

 

 

Under the principal’s direction, and as part of a secondary teaching assignment, the Physical Education Teacher teaches one or more classes of physical education and assists in other school duties as assigned.

 

  1. I.                   Major Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. a.      Performs duties in accordance with District and State school policies and\or laws.
    2. b.      Teaches courses in Physical Education to secondary pupils utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
    3. c.       Attends Physical Education Workshops and keeps abreast of new innovations.
    4. d.      Sees that equipment is kept in good repair.
    5. e.      Supervises all class activities.
    6. f.        Provides instruction in the prevention of injuries.
    7. g.      Provides first aid in injuries with compliance to State and District policy.
    8. h.      Issues, collects and accounts for all equipment.
    9. i.        Keeps a record of all fitness tests and compiles norms for year to year.
    10. j.        Issues and keeps a record of locks and locker numbers, combinations and serial numbers.
    11. k.      Promotes athletic and recreational programs.
    12. l.        Requests equipment for physical education programs.
    13. m.    Promotes recreation among the faculty and other adults.
    14. n.      Promotes health campaigns
    15. o.      Prescribes exercises
    16. p.      Gives guidance to students in health, social, vocational and athletics.
    17. q.      Keeps a record of all individual students’ results of each test, posts such results so it can be seen and examined by students.
    18. r.       Works at improving school facilities for a continued improvement in Physical Education programs.
    19. s.       Strives toward a good rapport with classroom teachers and the relationships with student’s class work and physical fitness obtained in Physical Education.
    20. t.        Delegates responsibilities to class members and encourages leadership.
    21. u.      Participates with the principal or his\her designee to mutually develop the system by which he\she will be evaluated in conformance with the District’s uniform guidelines for evaluation and assessments.
    22. v.      Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.

  2. II.                Other Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. a.      Selects and requisitions books, instructional aides and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records; may request resource speakers and field trips.
    2. b.      Communicates with parents and school personnel to discuss the individual pupil’s progress.
    3. c.       Identifies pupil’s needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
    4. d.      Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
    5. e.      Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school or assignment and\or on a District level.  May teach under the module or flexible scheduling plan.
    6. f.        Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
    7. g.      Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistant’s and\or other paraprofessionals.
    8. h.      Attends all faculty, in-service, and articulation meetings.
    9. i.        Performs other duties, such as, yard and bus duties as assigned by the school’s extra duty roster.
    10. j.        Supervises co-curricular activities, such as, student’s supervision at athletic events, club sponsorships and dance duties as assigned.
    11. k.      Assists in writing goals and performance objectives in his teaching assignment and relevant school and District levels as assigned.
