Job Summary

The principal position at Cherryland Elementary School involves leading a diverse and dynamic school community committed to academic excellence, equity, and social justice. The principal is expected to embody and enact a strong educational mission and vision, setting measurable goals and priorities to drive student achievement. As of the 2022–2023 school year, Cherryland Elementary School in Hayward, California, serves approximately 903 students across grades K–6. The student body is predominantly Hispanic/Latino (approximately 82%), with additional representation from Asian (5.6%), African American (5.4%), multiracial (3.9%), Pacific Islander (1.7%), and White (1.6%) communities. This diverse and dynamic student population underscores the importance of culturally responsive leadership and community engagement in the principal role at Cherryland Elementary.

We seek a principal who expresses powerful educational mission and vision through action. We are committed to selecting a principal with vision who is inclusive, sets measurable goals, priorities and deadlines, and pushes past resistance to make things happen. Organizes and administers the elementary school to which he/she is assigned in accordance with the provisions of the California Education Code and the rules and regulations of the Board of Education; makes decisions on matters that lie within his/her jurisdiction; interprets and carries out directives from the Superintendent's office. Establishes high standards of performance for teachers and students. Emphasizes student achievement as the primary outcome of schooling. Serves as a leader in public and community relationships. Supervises and evaluates student teachers assigned to the school site. Maintains an approved educational program adapted to the needs of the students in the District.
