Job Description

 

San Bernardino Valley College is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution with a majority of our students identifying themselves as either African-American/Black or LatinX. We are seeking individuals to join our department who are fully committed to transformational, culturally responsive education in a collegial and collaborative student-center environment.

 

This positions is expected to start in Fall 2025.

 

San Bernardino Valley College is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to provide leadership, engagement, discipline expertise, and student support in the area of Instrumental Music to spearhead the development of new and modernization of current programs and curriculum within the Music department. As a fulltime faculty member at San Bernardino Valley College, the successful candidate will demonstrate commitment in supporting the educational goals of a culturally diverse community of learners.

 

This position is expected to start in Fall 2025.

 

Summary Description 

 

1) Develop, implement, and revise curriculum for an Instrumental Music program and Music courses.

2) Teach a range of Music courses at various levels.

3) Develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.

4) Facilitate a learning environment that encourages student success and retention.

5) Contribute to program evaluation, accreditation activities, committee work, and continuous improvement efforts of the institution.

6) Participate in departmental, college-wide, and community service activities.

7) Develop and maintain strong relationships with local high schools and teach dual enrollment courses.

8) Participate in partnerships, recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.

9) Lead and conduct instrumental ensembles.

10) Oversee the instrumental music program, including supervising the formation and training of additional ensembles as required in the context of a growing student body.

11) Teach applied music lessons.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

 

• Master's degree in music OR 

• Bachelor's degree in music AND Master's in humanities

OR the equivalent

• Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.

 

Desirable Qualifications 

 

• Two years experience teaching instrumental music, with at least one year at the community college level.

• One year experience in instrumental and composition.

• Experience with directing or conducting.

• Strong knowledge of wind, brass, and percussion methods.

• Experience with instrumental maintenance and storage.

• Professional experience in instrumental performance.

• Active involvement in the music industry.

5. Unofficial transcripts that show you meet the minimum educational requirement(s) for the position. Only transcripts showing the awarded minimum required degree or higher degree will be accepted. Transcripts must be legible. Transcripts must be from a US accredited institution. Transcripts from outside the US must include an official evaluation for equivalency. Copies of diplomas will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts if the position requires a degree. Official Transcripts will be required upon hire. If possible, please highlight the area indicating the degree name/major and date the degree was awarded or conferred.

• Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
