SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER (RSP/SDC) Responsibility: Under the direction of the Special Education Coordinator and/or site principal, plans, implements, and evaluates the instructional activities for individual students assigned class and subject area. Essential Functions: In addition to essential functions and duties/responsibilities of teacher: 1. Plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates Individual Education Plan (IEP) of each assigned student. 2. Prepares appropriate lesson plans and objectives based upon individual student’s IEP goals and grade level expectations. 3. Coordinates students’ inclusion into general education classes and activities as an inclusion facilitator/specialist. 4. Performs educational assessments in accordance with California State Standards, district policy, school programs and IEP goals. 5. Develops, implements, monitors and revises behavior support plans as required by students for educational success. 6. Prepares required student forms and maintains accurate student academic records, attendance records, and cumulative student progress and achievement records and reports. 7. Informs parents of enrolled children concerning progress toward goals and encourages their participation in IEP meetings and parent conferences. 8. Prepares reports as required by the state and the district. 9. Participates in all state/federal review processes as requested. 10. Possesses ability to read, understand, and carry out oral and written directions. Duties/Responsibilities: 1. Participates in appropriate IEP planning/meetings and other meetings as required. 2. Develops and implements behavior support plans. 3. Performs other duties similar to the above in scope and function as required. 4. Trains, supervises, and evaluates Special Needs Aides and Behavior Intervention Aides as assigned. 5. Performs the duties of an inclusion facilitator/specialist. 6. Implements all duties in compliance with all state and federal Special Education laws and mandates. Qualifications: 1. Skills to motivate special education students in one or more areas and to communicate with individuals from varied backgrounds. 2. Knowledge of California State Standards, curriculum, education code, and Special Education law. 3. Ability to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and school personnel. 4. Ability to perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, and meet schedule deadlines. Education and Experience: 1. Bachelor’s Degree with valid California Teaching Credential and the appropriate Special Education Credential and authorization for the specific position. 2. Teaching experience at various grade levels and with learning disabled students. 3. Knowledge of subject area and instructional methodologies and techniques. Physical Requirements: 1. Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for standing, sitting, bending, or walking. 2. Work assignments are normally located in a work environment with light physical activity and require light physical effort. 3. Lifting 25 lbs. maximum or carrying any object weighing over 15 lbs.
