Job Summary
The Speech & Language Pathology Assistant (“SLPA”) works under the supervision of the Senior Director of Special Education and direction of Speech & Language Pathologists. The SLPA completes a variety of tasks such as activities designed to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication; works with students who have identified speech and language disorders as well as other disabilities; performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Associate of Arts degree in speech-language pathology or communication disorders, or graduation from a speech-language pathology assistant program; • Current registration as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) issued by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board; • Prior SLPA experience in educational or clinical settings preferred • Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver License; • Provide proof of automobile insurability; • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effectively, including lifting fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance. Participation in this plan is mandatory for employees working 35 plus hours a week. Employee will be a member of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) to which both the employee and MCOE contribute. Employee may elect to be a member of the Mendocino County Federation of School Employees Union. MCOE does not participate in the Social Security system.
