Job Summary

DEFINITION Under general supervision, to develop and maintain working relationships with students, parents, community groups, and social service agencies; to assist school personnel in the recognition and understanding of pupils' backgrounds; to explain school programs and discuss behavior problems with parents; to interpret for parents, students, and staff; and to perform related work as required.

Requirements / Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS • Bilingual in English and in the following language: CANTONESE, MANDARIN or VIETNAMESE. • Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License. • Use of personal automobile insurance that conforms to district requirements. • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency is required. • Ability to read, write, and converse in English and in the designated second language. • Successfully pass the Garvey School District Written and Bilingual Tests. • Completion of a Criminal Records Check prior to beginning work. Training and Experience Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and ability to perform the duties of the position. A typical qualifying entrance background is experience performing instructional assistant duties or responsible community services.

TESTING The Garvey School District Written and Bilingual Test will be scheduled on a future date. Applicants who require testing will be notified. If you have previously passed the Garvey School District Written Test and the Garvey School District Bilingual Test, no further testing is required. For verification purposes, please submit copies of your Written Test or Bilingual Test with your application. All applications will be screened.
