JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent or designee, assists in supervising and monitoring student behavior and attendance; responsible for providing a safe and secure school environment, fostering an optimal learning environment; performs other related tasks as assigned. Position may require varying work hours and days.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION
May include, but not limited to:
- Assist with planning and implementation of programs and policies related to attendance
- Maintain profiles on students with habitual attendance records
- Identify and monitor students deemed to be “at risk”
- Contact parents/guardians and/or make home visits to resolve problems with student attendance
- Patrol school campus in order to ensure school safety
- Monitor student behavior and diffuse hostile situations
- Intervene in situations likely to result in disruption or injury and direct students to refrain from such conduct.
- Insure students are in class during class time
- Enforce safe school policies regarding, but not limited to, weapons, tobacco, illegal substances, traffic rules, dress code, etc.
- Intercept non-students who come on campus during school hours and direct them either report to the office or leave campus; notify the school administration immediately if a non-student fails to comply, returns again after departing, or otherwise creates a problem.
- Assist in control at school events including evenings and weekends
- Assist in crisis events such as drills, threats and lockdowns
- Report unsafe conditions and potential health and safety hazards to administrators
- Complete necessary written reports accurately using modern office machines, and serve as a witness in student conferences, disciplinary hearing/proceedings, and legal hearing/proceedings.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other within and outside of the school community
- Perform other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and Application of:
Laws, Board Policies and Regulations, including but not limited to California Education Code and California Laws Relating to Minors; building and maintaining cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; office equipment, including computer and word processor; effective and efficient communication skills; proper spoken and written English.
Ability to:
- Work confidentially and maintain the security of sensitive and privileged information
- learn specific rules, laws, and policies quickly and apply them with good judgment in a variety of procedural situations
- compile and maintain accurate and complete records and reports
- understand and carry out oral and written directions; meet the public tactfully and courteously
- establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children and adults
- assist teacher in basic school subjects

- hear and speak to conduct normal in-person and telephone conversations
- move to perform the duties described in an efficient manner
Education / Experience:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum of one year experience working with groups of elementary, middle and/or high school students
Possession of valid California Drivers’ License
Possession of Valid First Aid and CPR Certificates
Must meet District minimum requirements through practical and/or written examination
Salary Level: 34 - Classified Salary Schedule
