All teachers receive their job description and teaching assignments from the principal. The teacher’s primary responsibility is to the student. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Know, teach and act consistently in accordance with the philosophy, objectives and policies of the school as well as Diocesan policies and regulations.
Teach Catholic values by personal example as well as by explicit instruction.
Attend school liturgies and religious celebrations.
Perform teaching duties in a competent, professional and Christian manner.
Provide instruction, guidance and assessment for students in an environment conducive to academic, social, and moral growth and development.
Teach in accordance with the approved Diocesan Curriculum Standards for all content areas, which are located on the Curriculum and Standards site off the CSDO Homepage. https://sites.google.com/a/csdo.org/curriculum-and-standards/
Promote a culturally responsive environment with appreciation for local diversity in a global community.
Assume responsibility for continued professional growth that matches the needs of the local school site and as required by Department of Catholic Schools initiatives.
Participate in religious formation opportunities.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings, school-related meetings, activities and projects as required by the principal.
Maintain accurate records and reports.
Partner with parents/legal guardians and communicate proactively and frequently.
Act responsibly with respect to children’s rights (see Section 6540).
Confer with the principal about all unusual occurrences and all serious disciplinary problems and actions.
Communicate regularly with the principal and staff in the spirit of building a faith community.
Secure the principal’s approval for all communications and/or any correspondence sent from the school as directed.
Exercise effective classroom management skills that promote student learning and utilize positive discipline that is consistent with your school’s mission and philosophy and respects the dignity of the individual student.
Provide supervision in buildings and on school grounds as assigned by the principal.
Be available before and after school in accordance with school policy.
Implement all accommodations and modifications determined during the SST process.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
Participate in significant events in the parish community.
Effectively communicate orally and in writing with a variety of audiences.
