Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Principal of MCOE School Programs, implement and coordinate activities that support the student’s education program; demonstrate extensive knowledge and practical application of behavioral principles, practices, methods and strategies applicable to students with a variety of disabilities, including behavior management based on positive reinforcement; support the successful integration of students with special needs into the general education classroom, resource classroom, or special day classroom and other school settings; possess personal qualities including leadership, integrity, fairness, optimism, self-confidence, persistence and vitality.
Requirements / Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Possess a valid California Special Education Teaching Credential authorizing teaching students with mild to moderate or moderate to severe disabilities; EL authorization required; OR • Be eligible to enroll in an intern program by meeting the following requirements: - A Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university - Passing scores on the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST) - Passing scores on the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET)* • A Master of Arts Degree with an emphasis in special education preferred; • Three (3) years of successful teaching experience working with a wide range of age groups and special needs preferred; • Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver's License; • Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties, including lifting fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance. * Candidates who have only a BA and CBEST may be employed on a Provisional Internship Permit to allow time to pass the CSET exam in order to enroll in an intern program. BENEFITS Employees are provided with an insurance plan, which includes health, vision, and dental insurance for employee, spouse, and dependents, at a shared cost. Participation in this plan is mandatory for employees working 35 plus hours a week. Employee will be a member of the State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS) and may elect to be a member of the Mendocino County Federation of School Employees Union. MCOE does not participate in the Social Security system.
