ANAHEIM CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Human Resources CLASS TITLE: RESOURCE SPECIALIST BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Principal and Director of Special Education, perform a variety of professional duties to assist with identified special education students; work with students in the classroom; administer and interpret diagnostic and standardized tests; communicate and coordinate activities with outside agencies. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Perform a variety of professional duties to assist special education students with identified deficiencies and challenges. E Work with identified students in and out of the classroom in small group, skill-based instruction; present appropriate instructional materials; inspect work assignments and progress; assist with group Language Arts and Mathematics exercises. E Prepare materials for class presentation, discussion, and exercises; correct class assignments and homework. E Administer and interpret diagnostic and standardized tests; prepare IEP documents using District’s computer software and conduct IEP meetings with parents, administrators, psychologists, and other required staff. E Communicate and coordinate activities with various personnel and with outside agencies; exchange information and resolve issues as needed. E Perform a variety of resource maintenance and clerical duties, including establishing files, obtaining cumulative folder information, ordering materials and supplies, arranging IEP meetings, and maintaining a variety of logs and files. E Arrange, attend, and/or participate in a variety of meetings, workshops, seminars, and conferences related to assigned duties. E Prepare records and organize and write reports related to program activities; read various court and psychological reports, cumulative logs and IRs; close out student files and file materials. E Provide work direction, collaborative services, and supervision to special education assistants, substitutes and other staff as assigned for the purpose of assisting at-risk students in regular education. E Participate in outings and field trips with students and faculty as needed. Operate a variety of office equipment, including computer, copier, tape/CD players, and a TV/video unit. E Perform duties as required in the IEP. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Curriculum for learning challenged and at-risk students. Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other Special Education laws. Policies and objectives of resource specialty programs and activities. Technical aspects of the educational resource field. Basic mental health terminology and philosophy. California laws relating to minors. Inter-agency policies and philosophies. Special education practices regarding eligibility and placement for special education classes and programs. Diagnostic and standardized test administration and interpretation. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students and parents. ABILITY TO: Perform a variety of professional duties to assist with special education students with identified deficiencies and challenges. Administer and interpret diagnostic and standardized tests. Communicate and coordinate activities with various personnel and with outside agencies. Prioritize and schedule work. Meet schedules and time lines. Assign and review the work of others. Train and provide work direction to others. Maintain current knowledge of advances in the field. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Work independently with little direction. Work confidentially with discretion. Work under pressure and with distractions. Plan and implement special education programs. Explain content and processes to learning challenged students. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, parents and faculty. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Maintain records and prepare reports. Observe behavior of students. Sit or stand for extended periods of time. Lift moderately heavy boxes. Walk. Bend at the waist and kneel to work with students. Reach to write or to retrieve and maintain files. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree in Special Education and some experience working with learning-challenged students in a classroom, court, camp or related environment. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Resource Specialist Credential. CLAD or BCLAD authorization. Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable example for pupils. Ability to meet District standards for physical and mental health. Valid California driver's license. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Classroom and office environment. Constant interruptions. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. HAZARDS: Exposure to students who may become hostile or disorderly and who may exhibit physical aggression. Board Approved: 7/25/00
