Requirements / Qualifications

Must hold a clear multiple subject credential or a clear single subject teaching credential. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING: • Bachelor degree from an accredited university. • Possession of a valid California teaching credential. • English Learner certification. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience as a teacher in a public-school setting for at least 3 years. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE: • Voluntary or paid leadership experience. • Experience in conducting professional development for educators. • Experience in planning, implementing and / or managing educational programs.

DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: Title III (funded) • Increasing English Language Proficiency • Provide professional learning for teachers that focuses on designated and integrated ELD instructional strategies and practices to support academic language and literacy in content area courses • Conduct lesson studies with teachers to identify areas for development/refinement in ELD instruction - plan, teach, observe, reflect, and refine instructional practices with an intentional focus on ELD strategies to practice and promote language development • Provide direct support and coaching to teachers regarding ELD lesson design and delivery utilizing base curriculum • Review, examine, and align current ELD curriculum and supplemental resources to promote and accelerate English language acquisition Increasing Core Academic Knowledge • Provide professional learning for content-area teachers to increase knowledge and utilization of instructional strategies and best practices to support ELLs access to curriculum and complex text in content-area classes • Create a resource bank with differentiated instructional strategies and scaffolds for content-area teachers to use with ELLs to provide access to rigorous curriculum and complex text Staff Development for Increasing Core Academic Knowledge and Increasing English Language Proficiency Professional Learning • Attend CORE Reading/Literacy trainings to support teachers with differentiated instructional strategies to meet the literacy needs of English Language Learners (ELLs) • Attend BELL (Bilingual/English Learner Leadership) Network meetings at the County Office of Education to receive key updates on policies, compliance, legislation, and information about conferences and resources for ELLs Computers and scanners are available for applicant use in the Human Resources Department Office located at 2271 W.
