JOB TITLE
SCIENCE TEACHER - HIGH SCHOOL
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teaches scientific skills and knowledge through courses in life or physical science, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
2. Plans a balanced science instructional program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions and student experiments; organizes laboratory activities and procedures for optimum learning.
3. Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches and other instructional aids.
4. Provides individual or small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously.
5. Instructs pupils in proper use, care and safe handling of chemicals, science equipment and plant and animal life.
6. Provides safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as needed.
7. Selects and requests books, instructional aids, scientific equipment, chemicals, glassware and supplies and maintains inventory records as required.
8. Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district or in self-selected professional growth activities.
9. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as necessary or assigned.
10. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
11. Communicates with parents and school counselors on the individual pupil's progress.
12. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
13. Performs basic attendance accounting and clerical tasks as required.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Mental ability to teach the skills; and skills and knowledge required to interpret and implement policies, rules and regulations, and make determinations relative to the effective performance of the essential responsibilities of the position.
2. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
3. Ability to see and read printed matter with or without vision aids.
4. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.
5. Manual dexterity to carry out the functions of the above essential responsibilities.
6. Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
7. Ability to bend, reach and walk.

Requirements / Qualifications
Candidates must possess a Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences; a valid California Teaching credential in Biological Sciences; EL Certification; valid TB clearance.
