Job Summary
The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting to establish an eligibility pool for the position of Teacher - Alternative Education for the Juvenile Court and Community Schools (JCCS) department of the Student Services and Programs division. At single or multiple sites, provides instruction in assigned academic and social areas to youth in a variety of educational settings which may include detention facilities, community schools, independent study, or other alternative education programs. JCCS sites are located throughout San Diego County. Applicants will be able to indicate region preference in the application. ABOUT JCCS: SDCOE's Juvenile Court and Community Schools (JCCS) provide a fully accredited educational program for school-age youth who are either wards of the court or have been referred by social services, probation, or one of the 42 school districts in San Diego County. Services are provided to students who are incarcerated, pregnant or parenting, in foster care, expelled, chronically truant, in drug treatment centers and group homes for neglected or abused children, and experiencing homelessness.
Requirements / Qualifications
These positions requires the following education and experience:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field preferred; and,
Experience: Experience working with or teaching students with social and/or school adjustment issues. In addition, some assignments may require experience and/or training specific to the assigned instructional setting;
- OR -
Equivalency: A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred and experience working with or teaching students with social and/or school adjustment issues. In addition, some assignments may require experience and/or training specific to the assigned instructional setting.
Certificates, Licenses, Credentials:
- Valid California teaching credential required for the specific assignment type
- Leading Edge Certification (LEC) and/or Digital Literacy certification preferred
- Valid California Driver’s License
