Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Nursery Manager to oversee the growth, care, and maintenance of the village’s plant nursery, while integrating the practice of land stewardship, Indigenous science, and traditional ceremonies. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the village’s sustainable practices and fostering a deeper connection between the community, local plants, and traditional cultural practices tied to the cycles of nature. This role requires a deep respect for ecological principles, traditional knowledge, and a strong commitment to nurturing the environment in harmony with cultural values. Key Responsibilities: Plant Care & Nursery Management: Oversee daily operations of the plant nursery, ensuring the healthy growth of native and culturally significant plants. Monitor plant health, including soil, water, and nutrient needs, and manage pest control using eco-friendly methods. Propagate, plant, and harvest plants as required for the village’s needs and ceremonial purposes. Maintain nursery facilities, equipment, and tools in proper working condition. Record and track plant growth, conditions, and other relevant data for reporting and research purposes. Collaboration & Education: Lead workshops and educational sessions for village members on sustainable gardening, plant care, and the significance of plants in local culture. Serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries related to plant care and ceremonial plant usage. Build relationships with local environmental organizations, botanists, and sustainability experts to bring additional knowledge and resources to the village. Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship: Promote sustainable practices in plant care, water conservation, and soil management. The site coordinator is responsible for the safety of the children enrolled, the day to day operations of the site, supervision of 4-8 staff team leaders and enrichment instructors, program curriculum development, staff professional development, managing program supplies (including snacks), and handling program enrollment. Create monthly attendance reports to be used each semester to report to the state.
Coordinator Duties:
- Students and employee Sign in- Check accuracy
- Ensure all snacks arrived accurately- form filled out - and have been distributed- cleaned up- Order more if necessary
- Ensure all room are ready for instruction and prepare required material for team leaders. Example-Sports equipment is available.
- Conduct rounds during homework time twice an hour and that team leaders are meeting expectations
- Ensure that the team leaders have a plan B and that they are making use of the Academic Request Form for additional support to the students.
- Conduct rounds for enrichment classes and that the instructor is implementing curriculum
- Provide weekly report on progress and student engagement
- Maintain rosters and enrollment requirement for enrichment.
- Ensure that instructors have sufficient computers and equipment
- Ensure that all students are accounted for at all times
- Address any student behavior challenges
- Monitor quality, punctuality and execution of enrichment clubs
- Approve lesson plans of quality and theme: Hand on activities, creating, and are age appropriate.
- Request club materials needed.
- Be aware of concepts and standards
- Create a computer use schedule
- Ensure all web content students are appropriate and equipment is used properly.
- Ensure all student pick up are signed and released to the correct parent.
- Speak to parents if their was an incident that occurred with their child.
- Write reports of incidents
- Recommend suspensions
- Inform parents of upcoming events
- Communicate and collaborate with teachers in regards to student success and assignments on a daily/ weekly basis.
- Attend staff and parent meetings weekly and monthly and Proffessional development.
- Meet with team leaders to discuss challenges and improvements
- Give support to improve instruction and overall programming.
- Recommend additional support, training and enrichment components
