The Broadoaks School of Whittier College seeks an In House Floater Substitute Teacher K-8. The In House Floater Substitute Teacher K-8 will provide consistent, full-time support to the K-8 program at Broadoaks School. This teacher will cover teacher absences, provide additional classroom support, and ensure that students receive high-quality instruction when regular teachers are unavailable. The position is designed to ensure that the educational experience remains uninterrupted, safe, and enriching for students. In addition to fulfilling temporary teaching assignments at short notice, this teacher will be integral in supporting the entire school community by helping in various capacities across grade levels, events, and specialized programs as needed. The Floater Substitute Teacher will be expected to support both short-term and long-term teaching needs across the entire school, ensuring a high-quality, consistent learning experience for all students.
 
Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week?Exempt Status: Exempt?Full Time/Part Time status: Full Time, 10 months (off June and July)?Salary Range: $43,000 – $50,000 annual; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge. ?Reports to: Broadoaks School Directors?Location/Department: The Broadoaks School, Whittier College
 
Position Duties and Responsibilities
 
1. Provide Classroom Support and Instruction:
o Plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate learning experiences for students in grades K-8.
o Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
2. Student Supervision and Support:
o Ensure that all children are supervised at all times.
o Interact with students respectfully and provide positive guidance.
3. Program Coverage and Flexibility:
o Provide coverage for absent teachers.
o When no teachers’ absences are reported this position will have a classroom to report to or other duties as assigned.
o This position will also support short- and long-term projects within the school either by class or whole school.
o Participate in school emergency protocols
4. Communication and Collaboration:
o Build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
o Communicate about students’ progress, classroom activities, and other relevant matters.
o Work collaboratively with teaching staff, college practicum students, and volunteers to enhance the school’s educational environment.
5. Adherence to Policies and Procedures:
o Ensure the school is clean, well-maintained, and safe.
o Comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
o Follow the school’s policies and procedures.
6. Professional Development and Community Engagement:
o Participate in staff development opportunities to stay current with best practices in education and child development.
o Represent the school in a professional manner, engaging in community activities and professional organizations.

Position Specifications and Requirements
• Education and Credentials:
o California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential preferred.
o B.A. in Child Development or a closely related field; M.A. preferred.
o Must maintain current adult and pediatric CPR/First Aid certifications.
o Fingerprint clearance and criminal background check per the State of CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
• Experience and Skills:
o Previous experience in a classroom setting, preferred
o Knowledge of the development of young children, Common Core, and NGSS is highly desirable.
o Ability to work with a diverse student body, support the needs of English learners and children with additional needs.
o Strong communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
o Creative problem-solving skills.
• Physical Requirements:
o Ability to work indoors and out, in various weather conditions.
o Ability to actively engage with students in various physical activities.
• Other:
o Must adhere to confidentiality agreements related to student, staff, and family privacy.
