About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Antioch is known as the “Gateway to the Delta” and is one of California’s oldest cities, with a diverse community of approximately 100,000. The Antioch Unified School District is a Merit System District. As such, final selection of our classified staff members will be made from candidates who have been placed on an eligibility list. Eligibility is determined via an evaluation and competitive screening/scoring of a candidate’s training and experience as demonstrated on the application and responses provided in the supplemental questions.

ANTIOCH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Superintendent, plan, organize, control and direct educational operations, activities and services at an assigned elementary school including curriculum, and instructional programs, processes and procedures; coordinate and direct personnel, communications, discipline functions, welfare and guidance services, testing and evaluation, fiscal functions and information to enhance student learning and achievement and assure smooth and efficient school activities; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Plan, organize, control and direct educational operations, activities and services at an assigned elementary school including curriculum, and instructional programs, processes and procedures; establish and maintain school time lines and priorities; assure related activities comply with established standards, requirements, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Coordinate and direct personnel, communications, discipline functions, welfare and guidance services, testing and evaluation, fiscal functions and information to enhance student learning and achievement and assure smooth and efficient school activities; provide educational leadership in and oversee the development and implementation of school programs, services, schedules, goals, objectives, plans, strategies, standards, projects, processes and procedures. Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions; coordinate subordinate work assignments and review work to assure compliance with established requirements; direct the development and implementation of staff development activities for faculty and administrators. Coordinate and direct communications, programs, services and information between administrators, faculty, staff, outside organizations, the public and various governmental agencies; assure proper and timely resolution of student, administrative, parent, staff, faculty and public issues, conflicts and complaints; monitor, analyze and adjust activities in response to student needs and progress. Direct and participate in maintaining a positive image for the school; develop and implement strategies for maintaining and enhancing the external and internal image of the school and District; provide effective leadership for instructional and non-instructional areas and services for staff, faculty, students and the community; administer, develop and implement the school’s community relations programs. Provide consultation and technical expertise to personnel, faculty, administrators, parents and the public concerning school operations and activities; respond to inquiries and provide detailed and technical information concerning related programs, services, students, standards, requirements, issues, principles, practices, techniques, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Direct operations and activities to enhance faculty understanding of educational practices, instructional material guidelines and requirements, curriculum and instructional strategies; direct and participate in the development and implementation of curriculum standards; monitor instructional activities to assure alignment with curriculum requirements. Plan, organize, control and direct student intake, enrollment, registration, testing, assessment, referral and placement functions at assigned school site; coordinate pupil services programs; direct and participate in activities related to the discipline of students according to established policies and procedures; direct campus activities at assigned site to assure the well-being and safety of students and staff in classroom and non-classroom activities. Assure adequate personnel, instructional materials and resources to meet program and service needs; monitor and analyze staffing needs and initiate recruitment activities as appropriate; coordinate the purchase of instructional materials and equipment; develop and maintain contracts as required; direct activities to assure facilities are properly cleaned, maintained and repaired as required; direct and control the use and operation of the school plant. Direct and participate in the implementation of Special Education and other categorical programs at assigned school; coordinate school articulation efforts with other educational levels, schools and agencies; oversee and coordinate school site support services such as food, health and psychological services; develop, implement and coordinate student activities programs. Monitor and evaluate programs and services for educational effectiveness and operational efficiency; respond to administrative, staff and public input concerning educational needs; oversee the development and implementation of programs, services, policies and procedures to enhance educational effectiveness, operational efficiency and capacity to meet student needs. Provide technical information and assistance to the Superintendent regarding school activities, needs and issues; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs; assist with developing and implementing Superintendent and other recommendations related to District policies, rules and regulations at assigned school site. Develop and prepare the annual preliminary budget for school site operations; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations; administer grants and the disbursement of related funds as required. Direct and participate in the preparation and maintenance of various records, reports and files related to programs, services, students, budgets, incidents, accountability, financial activity, personnel, attendance and assigned duties; assure mandated reports are completed and submitted to appropriate agency in accordance with established time lines and requirements. Oversee and collaborate with school staff in the preparation of the annual Unit Work Plan and related goals and objectives; monitor school progress towards meeting Unit Work Plan and District goals and objectives; oversee and participate in the preparation and distribution of related reports. Maintain current knowledge of educational methods, practices and standards related to school operations and related laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures; modify programs and services to assure compliance with standards and requirements as needed. Communicate with administrators, personnel and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and programs and resolve issues or concerns; oversee and participate in preparing and distributing a variety of correspondence and informational materials. Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to conduct work. Coordinate, attend and conduct a variety of meetings; present materials and information concerning school operations and related issues, needs and activities; coordinate and provide assistance to parent support groups. Coordinate response to emergency situations involving staff, students and others. OTHER DUTIES: Perform related duties as assigned.
