Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District TEACHER: DESIGNATED INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICE
JOB DESCRIPTION

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To assist in the diagnosis of and to provide specialist instructional service to students with special needs including visually handicapped, adaptive PE and speech pathology.

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Student Services


ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops with supervisor objectives for his/her work.

2. Plans with site administrators to serve students with minimum description of regular instruction.

3. Screens and selects students with special needs.

4. Keeps required records and makes reports as assigned.

5. Cooperates with school personnel in planning time for designated services.

6. Confers with parents and professional staff members regarding problems relating to assigned students.

7. Plans long-range objectives and therapeutic sequences for individual students, depending on the handicapping condition.

8. Meets with school staff to explain the purpose, procedures, and goals of designated service performed.

9. Maintains close liaison with community agencies in order to facilitate medical referrals that occur.

10. Administers standardized and teacher-made tests to individual students.

11. Works with students, parents, teachers, and staff members of the student services team to provide high quality in the area of service assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid California credential authorizing service in designated area.
