- Create an atmosphere conducive to learning by providing students with clear expectations.
- Develop consistent routines in lesson planning, use of class time, homework, assessment practices, academic incentives, and discipline that students can rely on.
- Teach students skills of self-governance over their studies.
- Oversee social interaction in the classroom in a manner that supports all students.
- Implement the school’s discipline policy when necessary to maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom.
- Provide regular and clear communication to students and parents on students’ academic performance and observed social interactions. Develop a relationship with families that fosters trust in your observations and feedback about students.
- Establish clear curricular goals for the year, trimester, week, and day. Adjust plans as necessary to support student learning.
- Utilize curricular materials and resources such as texts in a manner that supports the teaching goals. Texts are not curriculum; they are resources.
- Work to master the subjects you teach. Prepare your daily lessons. Present lessons in a manner that conveys thoughtfulness. Be flexible to adapt lessons based on student response.
- Be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge that you require of your students.
- Enable students to grow by providing classroom opportunities for prayer, worship, fellowship, and teaching of God’s Word.
- Take reasonable measures to stimulate and maintain students’ interest in the material while recognizing and reasonably adjusting for the needs of individual students.
- Assess students in a developmentally-appropriate manner. Provide regular, accurate, and specific feedback based on clearly established academic and behavioral expectations. Measure students’ progress using a variety of formal and informal means that may include quizzes, tests, proficiency exams, games, drills, and contests, etc.
- Lead students to see how all subjects are interrelated and God-centric using clear language and age-appropriate vocabulary.
- Most importantly, CCA teachers are the curriculum. While books are valuable tools, teachers are the most important aspect of our students’ education. Teachers not only guide students’ academic development, but they model the love, wisdom, and humility of Jesus Christ, the logos of life.
