Job Summary
An Education Support Specialist meets the needs of general and special education students by assisting certificated / permitted teachers with classroom management, organization, and providing instructional support to individuals or small groups under the guidance and direction of the assigned teacher. The Specialist attends to students' physical, personal, academic, emotional and/or behavioral needs. A major emphasis is placed on ensuring student safety and supervision during lunch, recess, and all other times. For special education students requiring individualized assistance, the Specialist provides one-on-one support to the assigned student as required.
Requirements / Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS • High school diploma or equivalent • Passing score on the paraprofessional exam • Early Childhood Education staff will be required to hold the minimum ECE units before the end of their first year. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to work collaboratively with peers, students, parents, community, and agency partners DESIRED • Minimum one-year experience working with children in a school setting • One of the following: o Associate's degree or higher, 48 semester units of higher education • Training in effective crisis intervention techniques • Training or knowledge in areas of autism, speech, child development, or other special needs • Certification in CPR and First Aid
