The department is responsible for landscape maintenance of district property, as well as painting and conducting repairs related to electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and alarm systems.

ELK GROVE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - CUSTODIAL SERVICES Basic Function: Under the direction of the Manager of Custodial Services, Maintenance or designee, perform maintenance work in the repair and maintenance of the District’s Custodial equipment including, but not limited to gasoline, diesel, 2 and 4-cycle equipment engines, blowers, buffers, auto scrubbers, vacuums, yard vacuums, pressure washers, water vacuums. Essential Functions: Perform maintenance work in the repair and maintenance on blowers, and other large and small District Custodial equipment, including gasoline and diesel, 2 and 4-cycle equipment engines; blowers, buffers, auto scrubbers, vacuums, yard vacuums, pressure washers, water vacuums; assure compliance with safety rules and procedures. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance safety checks and inspections on Custodial equipment; maintain detailed equipment maintenance records. Maintain and operate Custodial equipment in safe operating condition; perform routine maintenance on a variety of Custodial equipment. Repair and replace engine electrical and ignition systems, such as distributors, coils, alternators, starters and related systems, wheel, brushes, motors, various parts to equipment. Repair, replace and adjust transmissions, drive shafts, differentials, universal joints, gears, and valves and transfer cases on Custodial equipment. Maintain shop area, equipment and tools in safe, clean and orderly condition; dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with established guidelines; steam clean District Custodial equipment as assigned, maintain fuel and oil supply station. Operate a variety of diagnostic equipment and machinery utilized in the maintenance and repair of, blowers, buffers, auto scrubbers, vacuums, yard vacuums, pressure washers, water vacuums, and other Custodial equipment. Perform electrical and acetylene welding, brazing and soldering for minor Custodial equipment operational repairs. Perform related duties as assigned. Demonstrated Knowledge and abilities: KNOWLEDGE OF: The operation, maintenance and repair of heavy and light custodial equipment. The safe operation of related tools, equipment and procedures in the repair and maintenance of District custodial equipment. The basic operation and principles of gasoline, diesel, 2 cycle and 4-cycle equipment. Preventative Maintenance Technician - Custodial Services – Continued Page 2 The methods, equipment, tools and materials used in the repair and maintenance of the Custodial department mechanical equipment. The basic diagnostic procedures for Custodial equipment. Preventative maintenance procedures and practices. Shop math applicable to Custodial equipment. Applicable health and safety regulations. Safe driving techniques. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Proper lifting techniques. Understanding of basic custodial and maintenance principles and practices. ABILITY TO: Repair and operate and maintain a wide variety of large and small gasoline, diesel, 2 cycle and 4 cycle engines, blowers, buffers, auto scrubbers, vacuums, yard vacuums, pressure washers, water vacuums of Custodial equipment. Repair and maintain mechanical, electrical and computerized equipment components. Operate specialized equipment used in repairing or servicing of blowers, buffers, auto scrubbers, vacuums, yard vacuums, pressure washers, water vacuums including lifts. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Maintain records related to safety, preventive maintenance and work performed. Observe health and safety regulations. Use gas, arc and plastic welding equipment. Operate a computer with various software programs. Use proper lifting methods. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance. Walk or stand for extended periods of time. Bend at the waist, kneel or crouch. Reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Move hands and fingers to operate power tools and equipment. See to observe and perform repairs. Hear and speak to exchange information. Preventative Maintenance Technician - Custodial Services- Continued Page 3 Education and Experience Required: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years Custodial equipment maintenance and repair experience. Licenses and other Requirements: Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Class C Driver’s license. Floor-lift 92 pounds and arm-lift 80 pounds. Drive District Vehicle Working Conditions: ENVIROMENT: Custodial equipment repair shop environment. Driving a District vehicle to conduct work. Emergency call-out on site repairs as necessary. Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions. Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors. Operating a variety of machinery related to the Custodial Industry. HAZARDS: Subject to noise and fumes from equipment operation. Exposure to chemical fumes and vapors such as gasoline and diesel fuel. Working in cramped or restrictive work chamber. Working around and with machinery having moving parts. Working on ladders. Working around moving objects or vehicles. Recommended salary placement: 21-501
