CTE Dental Assistant & RDA Instructor

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Working under the Associate Superintendent of Instructional Services and the site administrator, will be responsible to provide instruction and training in dental assistant and RDA occupations that will prepare the student for entry level employment in the dental careers.  Students will learn skills, knowledge, and abilities commensurate to the goals of the program.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.         Organize classroom facilities in a manner conducive to instruction of Dental Assisting & RDA.

2.         Assist in locating potential employment and advanced placement opportunities for students.

3.         Work directly with and be responsible for advisory committee.

4.         Provide immediate supervision to all students while they are at the training site.

5.         Provide instruction in job seeking skills which will include an employment application and resume as well as  

interviewing and job seeking techniques.

6.         At the completion or termination of students' training, submit a report of the total number of hours of training the

student received and the related skills achieved and issue appropriate certificates of proficiency.

7.         Accurately and punctually submit to the SUHSD office all forms and information needed for attendance accounting

and grade reporting.

8.         Attend staff meetings and other such meetings as shall be required by the SUHSD.

9.         Provide effective and cooperative liaison activities between the SUHSD, schools, businesses, industries, unions,

apprenticeship programs and the general community.

10.       Perform other duties related to this job as shall be requested by either the Superintendent or Associate

Superintendent.

Be knowledgeable in all aspects of the dental field.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Credentials and experience:

Skill and experience in the dental field

Appropriate credential:  Designated Subjects Career Technical Education (CTE) Credential in Health Science/Medical Technology or eligibility to obtain one.  For verification of eligibility for Designated Subject Credential, the following must be submitted with the application:

  • Three years work experience directly related to the medical careers.  One year equals a minimum of 1,500 clock hours and the experience may be full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid.  At least one year must be within the last five years.  Completion of 48 units of postsecondary vocational training related to the industry named on the credential may be substituted for 2 of the 5 years of experience.
  • High School Diploma
  • Completion of Level I and Level II Designated Subjects credential program will be required
  • Valid Drivers’ License

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment applicable to assigned subject area
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
  • Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information, make presentations, teach and lecture
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to demonstrate skills in a classroom, laboratory or shop settings
  • Lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects as assigned by the position

Valid CA Career Technical Education (CTE) Teaching Credential in the related field of Health Science & Medical Technology. ---OR---- Ability to obtain a minimum (3) three years of verifiable work experience in the field of Dentistry OR one year of verifiable work experience in the field of Dentistry with the completion of a minimum of 48 semester units of postsecondary vocational training related to the field of Dentistry. 2. High School Diploma or equivalent verification 3. Letter of Introduction 4. Letters of Recommendation (Minimum of 2) 5. Resume 6. Transcripts showing relevant coursework (48 semester units = two years experience)
