Job Summary
The Instructional Assistant–Severely Handicapped works under the supervision of a principal and a credentialed teacher to support the special education program for students with severe disabilities and/or developmentally disabled adults. Responsibilities include assisting with individualized programs in speech, physical training, personal care, vocational skills, and behavior support; helping with evaluations; maintaining records; and providing supervision during activities. The role may involve transporting students, administering medical procedures after training, and supporting daily living skills. Candidates should have knowledge of instructional methods, special needs care, and first aid, along with the ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and perform physical tasks. CPR and First Aid certification and a valid California driver’s license may be required.
