The school is named for Arlene Hein, who served as Senior Executive Assistant to Elk Grove's superintendents since unification in 1959. The school is located in East Franklin. Arlene Hein Elementary School creates, optimizes and promotes academic excellence, confidence and character in ALL students, and provides them with a safe, positive and equitable learning environment in which to grow. The Food and Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students’ health, well-being and their ability to learn. The Food and Nutrition Services department supports learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness. Food and Nutrition Services believes that healthier students are better learners, so they are committed to providing food that promotes a healthy body and mind. The FNS department has always had a strong focus on teaching students the importance of eating a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. However, over the past few years, they have made a commitment to provide a stronger Farm to School presence through nutrition education and the foods they serve.
